I feel that it won’t have a major impact because Congress & the White House are just going 2 be at battle as usual when the power is divided. The only way it will make a difference is if there is bipartisan cooperation within Congress so that they can overrule our ridiculous President. It is extremely important that they find a way 2 work 2gether over the next 2 years 2 bring our troops home but realistically the chances are slim 2 none that it will happen.
I’m politically ignorant. But hopefully the war will be ending soon and Hilary gets her grove on in the big white house.
It is a sad case because honestly we can’t leave Iraq now. We have to somewhat finish something that we should have never started. We have to leave Iraq in a better state than before we came. If we don’t then we have wasted lives and money on a war that is nothing more than about money.

i really can’t answer to this one as well but i agree with Jay. Now, u can’t just say ok lets roll out of there and now things are worse over there. I really feel for the children cause they are loosin parents and loves ones just like we are and to see it on the news on little boy can’t go to school cause he is afraid and having bad dreams after seeing his father killed. thats something NO child should go through and that really hurts me to see any child hurting.
I agree that we can’t pull out of Iraq RIGHT away, however, it needs to happen relatively soon. We are in there for no reason anyway. The US tends to get involved in things they have NO idea about, create havoc and chaos and then we have no choice but to stay involved in other people’s business. I think Bush is an absolute idiot and I feel for the people of Iraq. It’s no wonder everyone hates us. I feel like we’re the Europeans from back in the day; running around trying to “westernize” everyone b/c that’s the “right” way to be of course. Why can’t we just leave countries alone and let them be…oh right…b/c they have OIL.
I don’t this is a question that is pressing or relevant to our community. That is why the response to this question is so low after almost a month.
I am more concerned with gay marriage, the Ryan White Care Act, and hate crime laws.

This question is very relevant, due to the fact alot of people in our community have family members serving in Iraq, and people who have died there as well. This blog is about various issues around our block. I am sure other questions will be coming. I agree with AK and Jay.
The withdrawl of the US is critical to the lives our soldiers.
And knowing people who are in the GLBT community serving over there, this new congress will be critical to movement of our soldiers back to the US.

As a veteran, sister of three marines, sister in-law to two Iraq war veterans, and granddaughter to two Vietnam veterans I believe that this is a question is relevant to my life more than it is to yours. However, the point that I was making that was wildly misunderstood was that since this is Lesbian blog that the questions should be geared to that community.
I also believe that there are a lot of questions that are very political and affecting our community/lives and we rarely if ever have a platform to discuss them. So next time before you jump the gun get the facts.
And why is it that other questions got so many responses but this one only a few?

Really I didn’t jump the gun. From my understanding the blog is about issues around your block, my block, the world. It isn’t necessarily geared only to lesbian issues. And for the record I have family members that have died in wars, now and in the past. So the question is just as relevant to your world as mine. And also you know and I know the Don’t ask don’t tell policy, works for those who work it. And if they have to live in the closet that is what some people have to do. But that is on them.
I will take that Jay and Sha and people like myself and you can make suggestions for other type of questions. They have done it before.
I think the reason why this question only got a few repsonses is people don’t necesarily maybe find this interesting or just don’t care to answer.
Assata, we posted this question becuz we felt it was timely and relevant. with six degrees of separation, we all probably know someone who is over there or we know someone who knows someone over there. we also wanted 2 test the market, so 2 speak, 2 see what kind of response this would garner. we plan 2 post other political questions and some but not all will be geared towards GBLT issues. personally, i feel that ALL issues are GBLT issues becuz we don’t live in a vaccum—we live in this world with everyone and all issues affect our lives in one way or another. i don’t want us 2 limit ourselves. all questions are not going 2 garner as large of a response as we would like but if it’s going on AROUND MY BLOCK, then i’m going 2 put it out there. Please feel free 2 email us any questions that u would like posted and we will review them and put them out there 4 our neighbors 2 respond.

Take a chill pill woman! Buttom line we are U.S. citizens; ratherwe are allowed to serve or not the question applies to our lives.
I myself think this is a good damn question…Simply put, myself I have family that served past and present…And we just can’t pull out of Iraq…all that talk about bring our troops home is non-sense…Like McCain said I see US over in IRAQ for several yrs. to come…no, I am not republican…but, let’s be real about the situation. What will happen to those children over there hen US pulls out…they will be dead…Poverty, Homeless or Prostitution or worst…We are US citizens and US is the richest countries…Why not continue to offer our support to countries who need us…Yes, we should have never went over there…they had nothing to do with the Pentagon nor the World Trade BLDG;s…Hillary all the way. Obama still have some skeletons in his closet.
